‘Phenomenal’, ‘Awesome’: Some Chelsea fans rave about ‘magnificent’ £145,000-a-week star

Chelsea were forced to settle for second place in Group H of the Champions League after a 3-3 draw with Zenit last night. After the game, Blues supporters raved about the quality of goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Timo Werner scored twice for Chelsea, with Romelu Lukaku making a goalscoring return from injury. Claudinho, Sardar Azmoun and Magomed Ozdoyev scored for the Russian champions.

It was Spanish goalkeeper Kepa who earned praise though. He was handed a rare chance to play with boss Thomas Tuchel choosing to rest Edouard Mendy.

Despite picking the ball out of his net three times, it was still a decent performance by the 27-year-old. He stood up and actually looked remotely like a goalkeeper that cost a lot of money.

Kepa cost the Blues when he checked in from Athletic Bilbao in 2018. He instantly became the first choice but in recent years, he’s fallen down the pecking order after some erratic form.

The 11-cap Spain star has made 114 appearances for Chelsea, keeping 41 clean sheets during his time between the posts.

What have Chelsea fans said about Kepa?

It’s fair to say that he’s received some glowing praise after his performance in Russia last night. He’s not always been the flavour of the month but he did make some fine stops in his latest outing.

Kepa is behind Mendy in the pecking order. That’s unlikely to change but all Kepa can do is keep starring once he does get an opportunity to play.
