Chelsea fans react as Arsenal star David Luiz comments on summer move

over his summer move to Arsenal from Chelsea, claiming that the decision to leave Stamford Bridge for a second time was an emotional one – and Blues fans have reacted to his comments.

Luiz, 32, was sold by Frank Lampard, ending his second Chelsea spell – after he rejoined the west London side from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2016. The likes of Kurt Zouma, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen were preferred.

Brazil international Luiz has spent the majority of his career with Chelsea, clocking up a huge 248 senior appearances in blue. He has since played 32 times for Arsenal, scoring two goals after making a somewhat surprising switch across London.

Speaking to OTRO, Luiz spoke of how emotional it was to leave Chelsea for a second time. He claims he struggled to get over the decision to leave Chelsea during his first days at Arsenal, and even had people urging him to “come back”.

“I can be honest with you, the first three days or week was not easy to understand all the emotions or how I was feeling, because everybody knows my history with Chelsea,” . “I had this connection with everyone at the club.

“It was so massive and big and I was missing every single one. Every text message I was receiving, people were saying: ‘Come back, come back, come back, come back, we are here for you’.

“It was a top decision [to leave Chelsea and join Arsenal]. [Arsenal] are a big club. I want to make this club improve and to shine again. The first days were difficult but after that I started to adapt.”

Though Luiz has been criticised by supporters and pundits alike this season, the former Benfica star still remains first choice under Mikel Arteta as he rivals the likes of Shkodran Mustafi, Sokratis and others for a place in the Gunners side.

Chelsea supporters have reacted on Twitter to Luiz’s comments, with many questioning whether it was an emotional decision to leave Stamford Bridge for a second time. One fan said: “But the call of the hard cash won out.”

Luiz earns £125,000 a week at Arsenal.
