Chelsea fans fear Enzo Maresca is about to make £84m transfer blunder as he lines up move for ‘massive prospect’

Chelsea are looking to sign a striker this summer; however, one of their top targets has left the club’s supporters with reservations over his ability.

The Blues’ transfer plans were handed a major boost on Sunday as they secured Champions League qualification. The West Londoners can now start to make their plans with this in mind.

Chelsea enter the race to sign Hugo Ekitike

Chelsea have entered the race to sign Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, according to Florian Plettenberg. The Blues are now working on a deal for the Frenchman as they look to bring in a striker.

However, a deal is set to be tricky as Frankfurt value Ekitike at £84m with the German club standing firm over their valuation. Frankfurt have got good money for players over recent times having sold Omar Marmoush to Man City for £59m and Randal Kolo Muani to PSG for £76m.

Now, they are looking at their next big sale and are requesting a record sale, should the West London club hope to land Ekitike. Arsenal and Liverpool have both watched Ekitike; however, their priorities appear to lie elsewhere for now.

Ekitike has enjoyed a strong season in Germany having produced 34 goal contributions in total. 15 of his goals came in the Bundesliga.

Chelsea fans have doubts over paying £84m for Hugo Ekitike

Chelsea fans are starting to have major doubts over paying £84m for Ekitike. There are concerns among supporters that whilst he is a ‘massive prospect’, the striker isn’t physically ready for the Premier League.

Fans are also concerned that the 22-year-old won’t offer a massive upgrade on Nicolas Jackson and he is too similar a profile to the Senegalese international. The Chelsea faithful have now taken to X to share their thoughts about rumours linking him to Stamford Bridge.

One fan said: “I don’t think he’s what we need at the moment and again I don’t trust players coming from the Bundesliga.”

Another claimed: “Seriously, I don’t rate this guy, I hope he proves me wrong when we sign him. I see him similar to Jackson in style of play and less energetic in duels against big defenders. He is more of a runner like Jackson. Another problem is the price. £80m for this guy is an absolute no!”

There were further concerns raised over Chelsea moving for Ekitike: “If we sign a forward, it must be Gyokeres or Osihmen, there are no excuses.

“We need a top-level striker who has proved himself, not another kid with potential.”

Finally, another Blues fan said: “This Hugo Ekitike to Chelsea rumours won’t go away. The guy isn’t bad, but I don’t think he’s the kind of profile we need. He’s like Jackson but expensive. What’s the point?”
