Chelsea fans are all making the same point about Levi Colwill and Josh Acheampong after draw with Crystal Palace
Chelsea might not have come away with the win against Crystal Palace but Blues fans feel there’s a lot to be happy about when it comes to defensive duo Levi Colwill and Josh Acheampong.
Chelsea couldn’t hang onto their lead as Jean Phillipe Mateta cancelled out Cole Palmer’s first-half strike.
In fairness to Palace, they had been knocking on the door but Robert Sanchez was in good form in the Chelsea goal, while the pairing of Acheampong and Colwill in front looked solid.
For Chelsea, having two home grown talents at the back is a far cry from the last few windows which has seen them splash money on a number of players to differing success levels.

The likes of Axel Disasi and Tosin Adarabioyo have had mixed performances but with Colwill and Acheampong starting today, it looks like Enzo Maresca might have found something.
Indeed, over on social media, Chelsea fans were raving about the duo as many suggested that the club have found their defensive partnership for years to come.
Chelsea fans loving Levi Colwill and Josh Acheampong partnership
As always on social media platform X, there’s been plenty of reaction in general to the performance from Chelsea.
However, against Palace, it was the pairing of Colwill and Acheampong that really caught the eye.
Another Chelsea fan – – also picked up on the duo’s excellent, complimenting them for how they dealt with Palace’s forwards.
“Colwill dealt with Mateta really well in that half imo. Constantly staying tight, imposing himself, stepping out and winning the ball early and doing well in the air. Acheampong won his one duel with Mateta as well. Hopefully more of the same.”
While also praised the pair, insisting they go well together.
“Acheampong & Colwill looking most natural pairing in terms of hierarchy of delegation; Levi usually being the youngest meant he’s not been given as much responsibility as at Brighton & Huddersfield. They relied on Levi far more whilst having craved & looking ready for that burden at Chelsea for awhile now. Josh next to him ensures this because the experience in and of itself brings expectation to raise responsibility levels, to navigate himself through games whilst guiding youngster will require higher concentration levels so he’s got his wish.”
Focussing more on Acheampong, believes the youngster is set for a big future and should start next week as well.
“This draw is annoying for many reasons, dropped points but it dampens a good Acheampong debut. Had some odd sloppy balls but he made some crucial interceptions. He and Colwill worked well together, almost like they have been playing for a long time. Carried the ball well. Had progressive passing. Unlucky to even concede the way we did. He should start the next game.”
While suggested Acheampong is similar to Colwill, but right-footed.
“Passing wise, Acheampong is basically a right footed Colwill. Interesting to see how he is defensively”
And going even further, @Victom_eth suggested Acheampong might be even better than Colwill!
“Josh Acheampong might just be a better player than Colwill.”
It looks like, then, that Chelsea might have got themselves a pairing for the next decade with Colwill and Acheampong.
