Chelsea could being the club in England who sign ‘extraordinary’ Champions League winner
Chelsea are searching for a new striker before the deadline passes on Thursday and could even try for French superstar, Karim Benzema.
Benzema is reportedly pushing to leave Saudi Arabia on loan this month and has been linked with a move to Arsenal already. However, huge wages mean any deal is hard to do, and the Saudis don’t really want one of their star attractions leaving either.
But with Chelsea needing a focal point at number nine, there is still a chance they make a move for someone before the deadline this week.
And according to journalist Dean Jones, Benzema cannot be completely ruled out.

Chelsea would love to sign Karim Benzema
According to Jones, speaking for , Chelsea are the most likely English club to sign Benzema, albeit a deal is unlikely due to the wages involved.
“It makes me feel uneasy when Chelsea are this quiet in a transfer window, I’m not used to it, and it just makes you wonder if they’re cooking something up. I actually do think that they would be the club in England that would try and get Karim Benzema if they could. That sort of signing could really project them across the second half of the season. But again, because of his wages around it, and the fact that he wouldn’t be willing to alter demands for them means it’s very, very unlikely to happen. There are still some possibilities around Chelsea going into the final days. I don’t think it’s going to be anything as exciting as we’ve seen in the last couple of transfer windows. But yeah, there are other clubs where I would be writing off the idea of business. Chelsea, I’m still remaining open-minded because I know there are some discussions going on,” Jones said.
Benzema would be here under Abramovich
In years gone by, this signing would have been done and there’d be no questions asked about Chelsea signing the ‘‘ Benzema.
Under the previous regime, this would simply be an opportunity considered too good to turn down and Chelsea fans would be getting to see one of the best strikers the world’s had in the last decade or so.
However, Chelsea’s new focus seems to be on top young players and while they do have the likes of Thiago Silva in the squad, it’s hard to see Todd Boehly splashing out on Benzema right now.
Sadly, this one probably won’t happen and Chelsea’s pursuit of a new striker is likely to take them down a different path.
