Chelsea coaches were angry with their 22-year-old player after what happened in the first half last night
Mykhaylo Mudryk was Chelsea’s hero in the Carabao Cup last night, but there was a moment in the first half when he annoyed his coaches – even though he wasn’t on the pitch.
Mauricio Pochettino‘s side dominated large parts of the game against Newcastle United yesterday, but it really did seem like they were going to come out on the losing side. However, Mudryk capitalised on Kieran Trippier‘s mistake late in the game to take it to a penalty shootout, which Chelsea managed to win.

Chelsea coaches were angry with Mykhaylo Mudryk vs Newcastle United
Mykhaylo Mudryk started on the bench for Chelsea last night.
Mauricio Pochettino went with a front three of Raheem Sterling, Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer, with Enzo Fernandez playing the attacking midfield role.
However, after just 32 minutes, the Argentine midfielder asked to be subbed off because he was unwell.
claim that Chelsea’s coaches turned to bring Mudryk on to replace Fernandez, but the Ukraine international wasn’t ready.
They took issue with how unprepared he was, which is probably why he wasn’t brought on until the 78th minute of the game.
That reportedly irked the Blues coaching staff, but Mudryk redeemed himself by scoring the all-important goal in stoppage time to take the game to penalties.
He scored in the shootout as well to help the Blues reach the semi-finals of the competition.

Mudryk has improved at Chelsea
Mykhaylo Mudryk joined Chelsea for big money in January this year, and he struggled.
The difference in the quality, intensity and physicality of the Premier League compared to the Ukrainian top flight was evident, and it wasn’t easy for him.
Mudryk looks a lot better now and has been impressing everyone. He is slowly developing into the player he was brought in to be, and even though he’s still a long way off from fulfilling his potential, these are positive signs.
The 22-year-old’s performance off the bench should give him a ton of confidence going forward, and Chelsea fans will be hoping this is a turning point.
