Che Adams could become the player Arsenal hoped Welbeck would be
Arsenal are one club credited with an interest in signing Birmingham City striker, Che Adams ().
The 22-year-old is having a fine season for the Championship outfit having scored 19 goals in 32 league games so far.
Adams is in a rich vein of form having plundered 11 in his last 14, which has alerted the Gunners as well as the likes of Manchester United, Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur.
People are really starting to stand up and take note of Adams, whose pace and power are a real selling point.
Having already been the subject of a bid in January (), there is a feeling that he might not last too much longer at Birmingham, unless of course they seal promotion back to the Premier League via the play-offs.
Even then they may face difficulty keeping Adams.
A better Welbeck?
Arsenal’s interest is perhaps a little surprising given they boast Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.
But perhaps the Gunners are after replacing Danny Welbeck, who is currently recovering from a broken ankle.
Welbeck will be out of contract at the end of the season, and there has been no word on a new deal.
Adams signing for Arsenal could see him become the player the club had hoped Welbeck would develop into.
The former Manchester United striker is in the prime of career now, but has arguably disappointed during his stint at the Emirates.
His goal tally of just 32 for the club is not sparkling, and his career total of 69 is somewhat disappointing from a player who once promised so much.
Adams has already plundered 50 career goals and is six years younger than Welbeck, although admittedly he hasn’t played in the Premier League.
Perhaps Arsenal see Adams – valued at £20 million by Birmingham (), as the player Welbeck should have become by the age of 28. He has pace, power and the kind of cutting edge in front of goal that Welbeck has lacked.
