Charlie Nicholas names three players who want to leave Tottenham amid poor start

Former Arsenal midfielder Charlie Nicholas says three Tottenham defenders, Danny Rose, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen, do not want to be at the club any longer.

Nicholas said the contract situation surrounding the defensive trio is ‘dysfunctional’ as they are just running their deals down.

He : “This is a must-win scenario. Tottenham were lucky against Watford as it was never a goal that Dele Alli scored. Mauricio Pochettino made seven changes – the most he has ever made – and he did not get a response.

Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld do not want to be there. They have not offered them a contract so they are just running them down. Danny Rose is the exact same – this whole situation is dysfunctional.”

TBR’s View – How have Tottenham let their Champions League final back four disintegrate?

If it seems staggering that a side who were in the Champions League final in June can have such serious problems in October, a look at how some of the players who got them there have been treated offers some clues.

Of the back four who started in Madrid, Kieran Trippier now lives there, having joined Atletico, while Rose was placed on the transfer list only to be reintegrated when he couldn’t be sold.

Spurs’ treatment of a player well-liked by the fans and constantly committed to the club, in Rose, has been baffling for more than one transfer window.

Alderweireld’s contract situation has been brewing for a while. It’s been in the post but Tottenham ignored the signs and now his defensive partner – who Tottenham need to usher Davinson Sanchez onto centre stage – is in the same boat.
