Charlie Nicholas claims Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld is ‘struggling’
Charlie Nicholas has picked out defender Toby Alderweireld as someone that is currently struggling in the Tottenham side.
The 30-year-old is one of the experienced members in the Spurs group and was an ever-present in the team under former boss Mauricio Pochettino, something which has continued under new manager Jose Mourinho.
He signed a new deal in December to stay at the North London club until 2023 and put to be speculation about a possible exit.
The Belgium international has been able to focus solely on his football since and unfortunately is part of a defence that have leaked far too many goals this season.
Spurs have already conceded 29 goals in their league 20 league games, while in the Champions League group stages they leaked 14 in six matches.
Sky Sports pundit Nicholas has highlighted the form of Alderweireld as an issue.
“Toby Alderweireld has signed a new deal but is struggling,”

TBR’s View:
Alderweireld is not someone that usually goes under the spotlight from Spurs fans and perhaps he’s been getting off lightly in recent months.
The centre-back was poor in the weekend’s 2-2 away draw at Norwich City in the league and it’s not the first time his levels have dipped.
He’s a leader in the backline that is good on the ball and has an excellent long-range pass in his locker, but his defending has looked a little suspect at times.
Mourinho has stood by the Belgian since his appointment and he could really do with him regaining his best form.
