Charlie Mulgrew believes the most difficult thing for Celtic to take from their Europa League exit is that they had more than enough chances in front of goal to beat Copenhagen, but unfortunately they weren’t taken.
Neil Lennon’s side were beaten 3-1 at Parkhead on Thursday night by Danish opposition Copenhagen, which meant they bowed out of Europe on a 4-2 aggregate scoreline.
The Bhoys missed a host of great opportunities to score in the 1-1 away draw last week while it was a similar story in the home defeat.
Copenhagen have progressed to the last 16 of the Europa League to face Istanbul Basaksehir, while Old Firm rivals Rangers are also through to face German side Bayern Leverkusen over two legs.
Mulgrew, who made 208 senior appearances as a Celtic defender, voiced his disappointment after the club’s European exit.
“The most difficult thing is they had the chances, that’s the most difficult thing to take. Copenhagen had less chances in the tie and seemed to just take them. It’s so disappointing that we never took the chances,”

TBR’s View:
Celtic have been so ruthless going forward for much of this season and they are a team under Lennon that have scored goals for fun.
But they hit a wall against Copenhagen that they couldn’t overcome and arguably the misses in the first-half of the first leg were the most costly.
The Scottish champions have seen their European adventure end earlier than they would have liked and they had the quality within the squad to go further, but now they turn attention to continuing their domestic dominance.
