Charlie Mulgrew has Rangers warning for Celtic ahead of Sunday clash

that Celtic cannot begin to think about their summer holidays ahead of Sunday’s Old Firm clash against Rangers, despite already winning the league.

The two Old Firm rivals do battle for the fourth time this season on Sunday, but there is little to play for in terms of league places given that Celtic have been confirmed as champions and Rangers will finish in second.

Rangers finally beat Celtic for the first time since returning to the Scottish Premiership earlier in the season, with Ryan Jack’s goal enough to earn a 1-0 win. But last time out, the Hoops won 2-1 against a 10-man Rangers.

Former Celtic star Mulgrew claimed that Rangers will be going for the win to give them a lift going into the 2019-20 campaign, and urged Neil Lennon’s side not to switch off despite their eighth consecutive league win.

“But it doesn’t matter if it’s the first meeting or last as players are just desperate to win,” . “These are the games that matter most to players and fans.

“It doesn’t matter if the league is wrapped up, derby matches are just special to play in. The Rangers team and their fans will want to win this game especially and give themselves a lift going into next season.”

TBR’s view

The Old Firm derby is more than just points on the table, trophies and honours. It is everything to fans, and both sets of supporters will be desperate to get the last laugh of 2018-19.

But there is more than would appear to this match. Neil Lennon is still only Celtic’s interim boss, but he will be looking to show the Celtic board that he deserves the permanent role.

Rangers will also be using the game to see where they are at, in terms of closing in on Celtic ahead of next season. It is a much bigger game than it appears on paper.
