Charlie Mulgrew believes Neil Lennon deserves permanent Celtic job

that he believes Neil Lennon deserves to get the Celtic job on a permanent basis, beyond the end of the season.

Lennon replaced Brendan Rodgers after the former Liverpool and Swansea City manager opted to leave, and join Premier League side Leicester City. He did so, leaving the chance of completing a treble treble.

Hoops legend Lennon was appointed until the summer, and has picked up three wins from four. He has beaten Hearts and Hibernian away, the latter in the Cup. His side have also drawn with Aberdeen, and won at Dundee.

It remains to be seen if Lennon will be given the job at the end of the season, and what the requirements are for him to get that role. But former Celtic defender Mulgrew believes he is deserving to replace Rodgers outright.

“My first feeling was that I was very happy for him,” “I was happy for Celtic, too, because in Neil Lennon they have a great man manager. He is somebody that can really motivate the team.

“I’m sure he wants to get the treble. His first aim will be to cement the league, and then win the Scottish Cup. I’m unsure what the requirements are to get the job, but if you’re asking me if he deserves it – he deserves it.

“He is somebody that can take the club forward.”

TBR’s view

It would be very harsh for Lennon to continue Rodgers’ excellent work, win the treble, and then inform the club legend that they will be looking to go in a different direction.

Winning the treble and making it nine consecutive trophies is something that has never been done before. To do that, Lennon will surely be given the role on a permanent basis.
