Charlie Austin lauds Marcelo Bielsa video following Leeds sacking

Charlie Austin has taken to Twitter to comment on a video showing Marcelo Bielsa interacting with the Leeds United fans following the announcement on Sunday that he had been sacked at Elland Road.

Bielsa’s departure came at the weekend after another heavy defeat to his side. The 4-0 loss to Tottenham meant that Leeds had conceded 20 goals in their last five games.

Relegation is now a real concern for the Whites. And yet, there were only a smattering of boos at half-time at Elland Road on Saturday.

Instead, Leeds fans have spent the past few games showing their support for Bielsa and getting behind his team.

It appears to have baffled some pundits that Leeds fans could be content with how their team has fared. But what they have never managed to get their head around, it seems, is that results on the pitch only explain part of the story of Bielsa at Leeds.

Of course, there has been huge success. The reason that they are now fighting to preserve their Premier League status is because Bielsa took them back to English football’s top table in the first place.

So it was no surprise that news of his departure affected fans in an incredible way on Sunday. Many flocked to the training ground to try and get one final chance to say goodbye to the Argentinian.

Social media ultimately became flooded with videos and stories of Leeds fans’ interactions with Bielsa. And many with little connection to those at Elland Road have clearly been touched by the events.
