Charlie Adam suggests Mauricio Pochettino as a potential replacement for Celtic boss
that Celtic should consider an ambitious move to bring Mauricio Pochettino to Parkhead with Neil Lennon’s future as Hoops boss hanging in the balance – following Sunday’s shock defeat to Ross County.
Celtic have now won just two of their last 10 league and cup outings, prompting protests from supporters including a banner from the Green Brigade last week – and a violent reaction from a group of fans on Sunday evening, after the 2-0 loss.
Goals from Ross Stewart and Alex Iacovitti saw Celtic suffer a Betfred Cup exit, just days after a Sparta Prague loss saw the club exit the Europa League – just four games into the group stage. They sit 11 points behind Rangers in the league table.
Former Rangers midfielder Adam has urged Celtic to consider ex-Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton manager Pochettino who remains out of work following his Spurs sacking in November 2019. A move, though, would be somewhat ambitious.

“Dermot Desmond can pull anything out the rabbit [hat],” . “He’s got enough money. Could Pochettino be the one? Could he throw Pochettino in the mix? Because he’s not no job. Come in, rebuild your career again and see what happens.
“What’s the difference with that and Brendan Rodgers coming to Celtic?”

That is in terms of stature and when it comes to finances. Before he was sacked by Tottenham, the Argentine gaffer was earning a huge £165,000 a week (). That kind of figure is far beyond Celtic’s wage structure, and expenditure.
While he is out of a job, Pochettino is likely to take one of Europe’s biggest clubs. The likes of Manchester United, PSG, Real Madrid and Inter Milan have all been linked over the course of the past 12 months. For Celtic, it would be a step too far.
