Charlie Adam suggests Liverpool should play centre-back Ben Davies

Charlie Adam has suggested that Liverpool should bring new signing Ben Davies into the starting XI.

The Reds signed the 25-year-old in the most recent transfer window from Championship club Preston, as he completed a surprise transfer to Anfield.

He’s a left-footed centre-back that is yet to make his first-team debut since his move to Merseyside and hasn’t played any top-flight football in his career before.

With Jurgen Klopp’s side suffering an injury crisis in defence, they signed Davies on a permanent deal from Preston and also Ozan Kabak on loan from Schalke.

Ex-Liverpool midfielder Adam feels that manager Klopp needs to bring one of the new centre-halves into the XI, suggesting that Davies could do a job in the team and recognising that he’d be under “big pressure”

“I think you’ve got to try and play one of the centre-backs the you bought in,” Adam told

“Even if they play Ben Davies at left centre-back, he’s played enough games at centre-back in the Championship. I know there is a big pressure at Liverpool, but you’ve got to give them lads an opportunity to play.”

TBR’s View:

Liverpool can’t keep relying on their midfielders in defence, as they are weaker at centre-back and really miss their presence in the centre of the park.

It’s not an ideal scenario to throw Davies into the Liverpool team this weekend for the trip to Leicester City in the Premier League.

But the reds must have seen something special in him to secure his signature, even if he’s just a short-term solution while the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez recover from injuries.
