Charlie Adam says what Steven Gerrard has told him about becoming Liverpool manager

that Steven Gerrard has told him he is focusing on winning matches as Rangers manager – as the Liverpool legend continues to be linked with the managerial hotseat at Anfield.

Gerrard looks set to stop Celtic’s pursuit of 10 Scottish Premiership titles in a row, with the Gers sitting a huge 23 points clear at the top of the table. They are yet to lose this season, and kept their 20th clean sheet in the league on Wednesday night.

Certainly, not many expected Gerrard to be able to pull off such a feat but they need just eight league wins to confirm themselves as Scottish Premiership champions. He has a contract at Ibrox until 2024, the same length remaining on Jurgen Klopp’s deal.

He has been constantly linked with managing Liverpool given his affiliation with the club, but ex-Rangers and Liverpool midfielder Adam stated that having spoken to the Gers gaffer – he is simply focusing on the short-term.

“He’s had two years of ups and downs,” . ” But he has had the board and owner that have stuck by him, and backed him. They believed in him. He’s in a great place and a great club, and if he keeps winning the titles.

“We all know that the Liverpol job could come up. Speaking to him, not so long ago, he just feels that it is important he keeps winning football matches and he is 150 games in now. He’s excited, and enjoying the challenge.”

TBR’s view – Does Gerrard go straight from Rangers to Liverpool?

He might have, until Frank Lampard was sacked by Chelsea earlier this week. Lampard did well at Derby and immediately joined Chelsea when presented with the opportunity – but after just 18 months in the job, he has been sacked.

Gerrard needs to take a more considered approach. Having only managed in Scotland, the Liverpool icon should remain at Ibrox for a couple more seasons and then head down south – not to Liverpool, but to another Premier League team in mid-table.

Then, if he impresses there, he will be fully-equipped to tackle the Liverpool job.
