Charlie Adam says he regrets leaving Liverpool in 2012 to join Stoke City
Charlie Adam has told a fan on Instagram that he regrets leaving Liverpool after just one season at Anfield, in a move that saw him join Stoke City in the summer of 2012.
Adam, now 33 and playing for Championship side Reading, joined Liverpool in 2011 after captaining Blackpool in their one season in the Premier League. Despite relegation, Adam was considered a breakthrough star.
The former Rangers man earned a move to Liverpool and played 37 times in all competitions during the 2011-12 campaign. He scored two goals for the Reds, but also proved very creative with 10 assists in that time.
However, Adam struggled to deal with the competition. Towards the end of the season, the Scotland international suffered an injury and opted to join Stoke for £4million () – and he told a fan that he regrets leaving Liverpool so soon.
TBR’s view – Liverpool let Adam go on the cheap
Considering Adam had a hand in 12 goals during his time at Anfield, Liverpool certainly let the left-footed midfielder leave the club for a bargain fee in just £4million.
Indeed, Adam should have had more confidence that he would have made his mark on Merseyside, especially after what was a decent first season at the club. A second campaign, with a pre-season, may have seen him go one better.
