Charlie Adam reckons Kylian Mbappe would replace Liverpool star Mo Salah

that he reckons if Liverpool sign Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain, the player he would replace in Liverpool’s starting eleven would be Mohamed Salah.

Still just 21 years of age, Mbappe is quickly becoming renowned as one of the best players in the world. He has continued his stunning form this season, scoring 22 goals and creating 13 more in 25 league and cup outings.

The 2018 World Cup winner has also netted five goals in five Champions League outings, and this week that Liverpool have been looking at Mbappe even before he made his Monaco debut in December 2015, aged 16.

PSG initially signed Mbappe on loan before spending £165.7million to land him permanently (). Ex-Liverpool ace Adam was asked who he would replace out of Jurgen Klopp’s front three, and he picked 27-year-old Salah.

“I think it would be very difficult in terms of where he plays,” . “I think [Roberto] Firmino is a massive link to how Liverpool play and what they try to do. Since Salah and [Sadio] Mane have been in the door, they’ve been sensational.

“I’d go for Salah. Yeah [Salah out, Mbappe in]. You’d have to. If I’m going to spend £150million, £200million on Mbappe, he’s going to be playing every week.”

TBR’s view – Is Salah the obvious choice to be replaced by Mbappe?

If you had to choose one, then yes, Salah is the one that should be replaced by Mbappe. The Egyptian has declined somewhat slightly this season, with Mane and Firmino still just as important as last season – if not more so.

Salah has missed chances that the other two – and Mbappe – would score. Most recently, a sitter from six yards against Manchester United seemed to completely bypass Salah, hitting him instead of the ex-Chelsea man scoring.

There is no doubt that Salah is still one of the Premier League’s best attackers. But if Liverpool are to spend big on Mbappe, Salah drops to the bench.
