Ex-Rangers midfielder Charlie Adam believes that his former side have struggled with inconsistency this season and that manager Steven Gerrard will not be happy about missing out on silverware.
The Gers have secured a second-placed finish in the league and host champions Celtic in the penultimate game of the season at the weekend.
There was disappointment in both domestic cup competitions for the Light Blues, as they were knocked out by Aberdeen in both and failed to reach a final.
Gerrard’s first year in management at senior level is drawing to a close and he will have learned a lot at Ibrox so far.
The pressure will be on him to really challenge Old Firm rivals Celtic better next season and it’s set to be a big summer ahead.
Adam, who played alongside Gerrard at Liverpool, has explained the disappointment of inconsistency at Rangers during this campaign.
“Knowing the manager, he will be happy with some aspects of the progress but he will be disappointed by others,”
“He’s a winner and he wants to win trophies so while second is a decent achievement, he wants better than that.
“It’s the consistency aspect that let Rangers down in the second half of the season – certainly in terms of results.

TBR’s View:
There have been glimpses of real quality at Rangers during the year, but they haven’t quite been able to sustain it over a long enough period to win any kind of trophy.
Gerrard’s team are in a strong run of form as the campaign draws to a close and beating Old Firm rivals Celtic at the weekend could be a huge marker to lay down ahead of next year.
The Gers are nine points adrift of Celtic with two league games left to play and it shows there is still a sizeable gap between the pair.
Gerrard will surely need to deliver something in the trophy cabinet next year to keep fans and the club happy with his work.
