Charlie Adam and Carlton Cole suggest £20m striker for Tottenham
that Southampton striker Danny Ings is the obvious answer to Tottenham Hotspur’s search for a new striker – after Harry Kane was ruled out until March with a torn hamstring.
Kane pulled up, clutching his hamstring as he limped off the pitch during Tottenham’s 1-0 loss to Southampton – a match in which on-fire striker Ings scored the only goal of the game. It was the 15th goal of Ings’ stunning 2019-20 campaign.
Now, Tottenham need cover for Kane with Mauricio Pochettino failing to replace the loss of Fernando Llorente in the summer. Troy Parrott is still only 17, while Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min are both naturally wingers.
Krzysztof Piatek has been strongly linked with a move from AC Milan, but both Cole and Adam told The Debate that England international and Saints star Ings is the obvious man to consider this month as a replacement for Kane.
“I don’t think they can risk a foreign player. They need someone who knows the Premier League. Danny Ings pops out at me straight away. On current form, he is the one that can play the Kane role. He’s going to cost a lot of money.”

TBR’s view – Would Ings be a good signing for Tottenham?
Without question, bringing Ings to north London would see Jose Mourinho boast a striker that can score just as much as Kane – in the England skipper’s absence. What Ings lacks in finishing compared to Kane, he makes up for in hard work.
The price is a difficult one. Southampton spent £20million to land Ings (), but it is likely they would charge something in the region of double that given Ings’ excellent form so far this season. Yes, in answer, but he would be expensive.
