Champions League club have £38m bid rejected to sign Arne Slot’s ‘top target’ at Liverpool
Liverpool have kept their cards close to their chest in the transfer market so far as Arne Slot continues to imprint his philosophy at the club after succeeding Jurgen Klopp at the helm at Anfield.
The Reds are the only Premier League side yet to make a first-team signing this summer, but Slot admitted last week that he’d be surprised if Liverpool failed to add to their squad before the conclusion of the summer transfer𝔍 window.
There have been talks that Anthony Gordon is held in high regard at Liverpo𓂃ol, with the Merseyside club reportedly agreeing a £75m fee to sign him earlier this summer. Joe Gomez could also🔜 have joined Newcastle United for £45m in the same deal.
However, the🧔 deal didn’t materialise as Newcastle made other notable sales to fall in line with the PSR guidelines, due to which there was no pressing need to sell Gordon for a huge fee.
Liverpool’s midfield, however, could see some fine-tuning between now and the end of the transfer window, with veteran midfielder Wataru Endo linked with an exit. but are not against offloading the Japanese midfielder after a solitary seaౠson at Anfield if they receive higher bids.
If Endo – or another midfielder – were to leave Anfield this summer, Liverpool are likely to scour the market for reinforcements and one player who could pique their interest is Atalanta’s Teun Koopmeiners, who is Arne Slot’s ‘top target’ at the club. And if reports are to be believed, Juventus have sꦍtepped up their pursuit of the Dutch international.
Liverpool target Teun Koopmeiners subject of strong interest from Juventus
The Bianconeri have already added Douglas Luiz to their ranks in midfield, but new manager Thiago Motta is keen to complete a deal for Koopmeiners, who missed out on a spot in the Netherlands squad at Euro 2024 due to a groin injury𒈔.

According to , Atalanta have rejected an offer worth £38m from Juventus, with Motta’s side expected to return with a higher bid in the coming days. The Serie A giants have already made their play for Koopmeine♊rs and if Liverpool aꦬre interested, they need to spring into action in the coming days to stand a chance of signing him.
How would Teun Koopmeiners fit in at Liverpool?
Liverpool have numbers in midfield, but according to , Slot reportedly sees the number six as a ‘critical’ component of his side. Curtis Jones, Alexis Mac Allister and Endo are all capable of playing i🐭n a deeper midfielder role, but if Liverpool decide to dip into the transf🧔er market to address this position, Koopmeiners could quickly emerge as one of their best options.
The Dutchman has worked with Slot during their time together at AZ Alkmaar, having been deployed in a double pivot at the heart of the midfield during the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons. If he were to secure a move to Anfield, he could occupy a similar role in the centre of the park alongside Mac Allister, with Jones, Harvey Elliott, Dominik Szoboszlai and potentially Fabio Carvalho vying for an attacking midfield role.
Standing at 6″2, Koopmeiners could emerge as a much-needed physical presence in midfield for Liverpool,🍸 while𓆉 his technical ability allows him to flourish in multiple roles across the centre of the park.
The Dutchman is undoubtedly an intriguing option who ticks a lot of boxes for Liverpool in terms of age and profile. However, Juventus have already agreed perso🏅nal terms with Koopmeiners and have submitted an official offer to snap him up from Atalanta, so if Liverpool are interested, t💧hey have to act now to stand any chance of snapping him up.
