‘Chamberlain thriving in new role’ – Three things learnt from Arsenal 2-1 Manchester City
City’s luck was out in controversial match
When matches are as tight as the one on show at Wembley on Sunday afternoon, sometimes you need a few moments of luck to swing the momentum in your favour.
Yet Manchester City certainly didn’t have the run of the green yesterday and must have been left wondering what they had to do to finish off Arsene Wenger’s side.
It all began in the first-half when Raheem Sterling’s goal was wrongly ruled out, with the officials adjudging that Leroy Sane’s cross in the build-up had left the field of play before swinging back into the pitch; replays suggest that the ball never crossed the byline and City have the right to feel aggrieved.
Shortly before that, vital playmaker David Silva – and key component of Pep Guardiola’s system for the day – had to be withdrawn after picking up an injury, and it clearly impacted their cutting edge.
Add to this the fact that the Citizens hit the woodwork twice just before the full-time whistle through Yaya Toure and Fernandinho and it seems like City’s luck simply deserted them at Wembley.
