‘Chamberlain thriving in new role’ – Three things learnt from Arsenal 2-1 Manchester City

Arsenal secured a spot in their third FA Cup final in four years after Alexis Sanchez’s extra-time strike helped Arsene Wenger’s side overcome Manchester City at Wembley on Sunday.

Raheem Sterling had a first-half goal wrongly disallowed after officials deemed that Leroy Sane’s initial cross had gone out of play, before Sergio Aguero gave Pep Guardiola’s side the lead after the break when he raced onto a through ball and delicately lifted the ball over the onrushing Petr Cech.

Nacho Monreal levelled things up less than ten minutes later when he met Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s teasing cross, before Yaya Toure and Fernandinho hit the woodwork in the dying moments.

It was Arsenal who were to have the last laugh, however, and Sanchez scrambled home in extra-time to seal the Gunners’ showdown with Premier League leaders Chelsea at the end of next month.
