Cesc Fabregas shares the word his West Ham-supporting friends use about watching them under Moyes

Cesc Fabregas has shared what some of his friends who support West Ham will often tell him when he asks about why they want David Moyes to leave the club as manager.

From the outside, it appears increasingly likely that David Moyes will be leaving West Ham in the near future after a turbulent second spell at the London Stadium.

Of course, the high point came at the very end of last season as they won the Europa Conference League, but this campaign has been a much more disappointing one for the Irons.

Some pundits have strongly defended Moyes; almost warning West Ham fans to be careful of what they wish for after the job the Scot has done.

However, it is clear that plenty of the supporters are ready for a change, with Cesc Fabregas telling that the fans he speaks to have grown tired of what they are being served up each week.

“It’s an interesting one this. I’m not obviously a West Ham fan, I don’t follow them every single week, I do watch them occasionally, I was at the Emirates when they beat Arsenal. I watched them the other day against Bayer Leverkusen and maybe a few other games,” he said.

“I have a couple of friends who are big, big West Ham supporters, and sometimes I ask the question, why do you guys attack David Moyes so much when he’s getting the right results? Last year you won a European cup, they were fighting for Europe up until not long ago, having good results, and they said we love him for the results, but we don’t like him because of the style and we are unwatchable.

“These are the words sometimes which they use, which I cannot say anything because I’m not really someone to judge this, because I don’t watch them week-in, week-out.”

What pundits tend to overlook about Hammers supporters’ frustrations

The problem many in the media seem to have an issue getting their head around is that West Ham fans can be both grateful to Moyes for everything he has done, while also feeling that the time has come for something else.

West Ham are admirers of Ruben Amorim. Amorim would be an incredibly exciting appointment given the work he has done with Sporting over the last few years.

Of course, their next appointment may not work out. Manuel Pellegrini did not live up to expectations after he replaced Moyes. But that should not stop West Ham rolling the dice and taking that gamble.

They have a lot more talent in the squad than many seem to admit, with Lucas Paqueta, Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus all arguably boasting world-class potential.

If West Ham get the next appointment right – should Moyes leave – then it could be an even more successful period for the club in the years to come.
