Cesc Fabregas says player Arsenal bought for just £11m was in the same bracket as Lionel Messi

Without Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard for the upcoming North London derby, the Arsenal players may be looking around for a little bit of inspiration in the tunnel on Sunday.

Both Odegaard and Rice are leaders at Arsenal, they set an example with their performances and are also becoming much more vocal too.

Of course, there’s a few different ways to inspire a win, and some simply do so by picking up the ball and producing a goal, something we’ve often seen Lionel Messi do over the years, even on a few different occasions at the Emirates.

Cesc Fabregas was also capable of those moments, especially against Tottenham Hotspur, a player who Mikel Arteta would love to be able to turn to on the weekend.

Cesc Fabregas shares what Thierry Henry and Lionel Messi had in common

Speaking of players who Arteta would benefit from right now, it would also be fairly handy to have prime Thierry Henry for Sunday’s trip to N17.

And when recalling his talent on ‘’ podcast, Fabregas said that Henry – who cost Arsenal in 1999 – was the only player in the same bracket as Messi that he played with in his career, two players who could decide a game on their own.

Fabregas said: “Thierry I think, together with Lionel Messi, yeah, they are the two players that I felt were much stronger when I was on a football pitch. It’s like saying, okay, this could not be my day.

“The team could not play well, but you know you will always have Thierry Henry there to save the day.

“And there were games in the latter part of my career, let’s say the last eight to 10 years, I didn’t feel that any game was easy.

“Okay, maybe when I was playing with Leo, yeah, you can feel that confidence that, okay, he will make something special.

“But also with Thierry, we were playing Everton at home, when we were in the tunnel at Highbury, stepping onto the pitch, it’s difficult to explain because I don’t want to sound weird or arrogant or anything, but I just felt I knew were we going to win.

“That was the power of me seeing Thierry there, and I only felt it with him and Leo.”

Alexander Isak can be Arsenal’s next Thierry Henry

Although Arsenal didn’t buy a striker his summer, they do have plans to do so in a year’s time according to reports.

Arsenal are planning an Alexander Isak bid, hoping that the Newcastle United striker would be willing to come to north London if Eddie Howe’s side don’t qualify for Europe.

Isak is demanding a release clause in his new contract, even if it remains to be seen what that fee will be.

But perhaps the Swedish striker could be deemed worth a price tag of over £100m next summer should he stay injury free this campaign – which remains his biggest question mark.

Fully fit, there’s no doubt that Isak would be an incredible partner for Kai Havertz at the Emirates.
