Arsenal icon Cesc Fabregas has now been discussing something Thierry Henry used to enjoy doing when new players signed for the club.

And although Fabregas’ arrival unfortunately entailed with Arsenal’s era of Premier League wins ending, they did enjoy a lot of success as a pair.

The duo did lift an FA Cup together in 2005, Fabregas’ only major title in North London.

That being said, Fabregas has now been recalling some stories from that era when speaking on the BBC’s ‘’.

And such was the elite environment that existed at Arsenal at the time, Fabregas explained how Henry used to welcome new signings to the club.

Cesc Fabregas says Thierry Henry used to test new Arsenal signings in training

Fabregas said: “I think there are always questions around the dressing room. It’s not about where did he come from, it’s more about the expectation.

“I remember Thierry Henry, he used to always every time there was a new player coming in, we used to do five against two, it’s called a rondo.

“He always used to bring them into the rondos because he wanted to see the level and he would give them a strong ball just to see if could control it.

“I remember that just to see if he could handle the pressure.”

Of course, some many imagine that Wenger’s decision to sign these players would have been enough in the first place.

But such was Henry’s ambition and standards, he clearly was leaving nothing to change.

Who tests new signings today?

With Fabregas’ words in mind, it’s certainly interesting to consider who’s playing the role of Henry at Arsenal today.

In truth, the atmosphere at the club is probably very different in Mikel Arteta’s new era.

Leaders in the squad such as Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Jesus and Declan Rice all seem very welcoming, easy going characters.

And whilst no one is doing how approachable Henry was back in the day, you clearly had to earn his respect.

With all this in mind, it would certainly be interesting to see how any new signings will fit into this new Arsenal squad in the summer.

And it does now seem as if Arteta has decided on his first deal.
