Cesare Casadei could leave Chelsea after failing to live up to Frank Lampard comparison

Chelsea midfielder Cesare Casadei has struggled for minutes since his Stamford Bridge arrival.

There was serious promise in the 21-year-old after his move from Inter Milan in 2022, but after back-to-back loan spells in England, Casadei has still struggled to impress Enzo Maresca.

It’s been a difficult spell for Casadei when it comes to his Chelsea tenure, with the young midfielder seemingly low in the midfield pecking order.

The Italian has struggled to find a place under Maresca’s plans and his time with Chelsea could be coming to an abrupt end before the end of the year.

Chelsea’s Cesare Casadei set for a move to Serie A side Monza

This comes after Casadei’s development stalling despite having two loan spells in England with Reading and under Maresca at Leicester City last season.

Casadei has also attracted past interest from Italian giants Juventus – according to – but their pursuit of a midfielder has seen the Chelsea youngster deprioritized.

Monza are being seen as the likely suitors for Casadei being much more advanced in talks compared to the chasing pack.

Cesare Casadei has struggled to live up to Frank Lampard comparison

Thomas Tuchel commented on comparisons between Casadei and Chelsea legend Frank Lampard when the Italian first signed.

Tuchel said, via : “I think we are not doing him a big favour if we say he will be the new Lampard. Yesterday I met him here at the sports centre, we will give him time to learn the language, the culture, to understand what Chelsea is.”

As time has told this comparison has been underwhelming to say the least and his game time with the Blues hasn’t helped him live up to the legacy of Lampard.

The Italian was included in a minimal amount of Premier League games under former Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino and the same has happened under Maresca.

Casadei has only frequently featured in the UEFA Conference League this season and hasn’t even been considered by the Chelsea manager.

He came with a huge amount of promise and even Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola has said he’s a huge fan of Casadei despite his minimal amount of game time.

It now looks likely Casadei will be embarking on a new journey back in his home country in pursuit of unlocking his true potential.
