Cenk Tosun seemingly rules out summer transfer as Everton striker hints at Besiktas future

Cenk Tosun has seemingly ruled out leaving Everton during the summer window after hinting – via – at potentially joining Besiktas on a free transfer next year.

The Turkey international faces an uncertain future at Goodison Park with the Toffees open to suitable offers (), as they look to free up a significant portion of the club’s wage bill for potential signings.

Tosun will enter the final year of the £60,000-per-week () contract he penned upon his £27million () arrival in January 2018 at the end of next month, and has often been away from just after 12 months of his arrival.

Everton had hoped to recoup £20m from Tosun’s departure in the January 2019 window (), and included the value in the loan deal that took the striker to Crystal Palace in the winter 2020 market () before he sustained a season-ending .

Tosun would not return to action until November but only made under Carlo Ancelotti before returning to Besiktas on loan in the winter, where a would cut short his season in April after just .

It is likely that his injury will keep Tosun out of action until November () once again, which would scupper Everton’s plans for a transfer, and the 29-year-old is already looking toward becoming a free agent next summer to decide his future.

“I will return to Everton, but Besiktas is my home,” Tosun . “We will see what happens after my contract with Everton ends.”

TBR’s view:

Tosun’s season-ending injury would have come as a big blow to Everton’s hopes of selling the striker in the summer market, and avoid the potential of the striker holding out to secure a free transfer next year.

That now seems to be the likely outcome of the Turkish forward’s spell on Merseyside that has not returned anywhere near what the Blues would have hoped for, having only scored games across all competitions and he struck five of those under Sam Allardyce.

Besiktas could have offered Everton a route to avoid losing Tosun for free if it were not for his injury, given he in his four outings while on loan, but will now have to aim at offloading him in January once the attacker has returned to fitness or accept a total loss on his capture.
