Celtic want to sign experienced defender Jagielka following Everton release

Celtic are keen to land Everton stalwart Phil Jagielka this summer as the curtain comes down on his Goodison Park career.

, the Bhoys wanted to sign Jagielka in January – but were unable to – and are back in for him now that he’s a free agent.

Jagielka used to play with current Rangers manager Steven Gerrard at international, who was his captain for the 2014 World Cup, when England were eliminated in the group stages.

that Jagielka joined Everton for £4 million back in 2007 – but he is not ready to hang up his boost despite leaving Merseyside ahead of the new season.

Jagielka remains an experienced international defender with something to offer – as he proved when called upon at the end of last season, when he scored against Arsenal when given some rare games.

Celtic need players with his experience and mentality if they are to keep on improving, although fans may perhaps not be too enthused by signing a player as far along in his career as Jagielka is.

It remains to seen whether the Bhoys can get Jagielka to come north of the border. If he is willing to make the move to Glasgow though, former England team-mate Gerrard may want to cut in.
