Celtic urged to rekindle interest in ‘outstanding’ former target, tipped to be even stronger now
Celtic have been urged by Mark Wilson to make another move for David Turnbull this summer, claiming the Hoops former target will come back stronger.
The 20-year-old was set for a £3million switch to Celtic Park last summer and looked to be bound for the treble treble winners until an injury was uncovered in August.
“He’s a player we’ve admired for a while,” Lennon told in June when the move looked like going ahead.

“He had a great breakthrough season. He’s an elegant player, technically he’s very good, proficient with both feet and he scored 15 goals in 30 games, which is quite a return for a midfielder.”
The move was ultimately called off as Turnbull underwent months of rehabilitation following surgery.
However, he was eased back into action in February and made two substitute appearances prior to the Scottish leagues’ suspension.
Turnbull repaid the faith shown in him by the club in March, until 2022 to give them more protection when it comes to his market value.
Wilson told the : “He’s still only 20 and I know he’s not got four or five seasons or a hundred odd games behind his belt.
“But I still think the season where he played 34 games and scored 16 goals and won Young Player of the Year shows he’s got outstanding quality got a young player.
“And I don’t think and injury like he had should detract from the player that he is or could be.
“I think if anything it’s given him a bit of time to strengthen other parts of his body that he wouldn’t have worked on and I think he’ll come back a stronger player, and I still think Celtic should go ahead and try and sign him.”
TBR View:
Turnbull earned plaudits from Motherwell and Celtic fans alike for penning a one-year extension and ensuring his club can get more money from an eventual sale.
He’s by no means out of reach for Celtic, and with Rangers set once again to try and take at least one trophy out of the Bhoys’ hands next season, Neil Lennon cannot rest on his laurels.
The £3million price tag may now have increased but he’d still be a worthy and relatively inexpensive signing for Celtic, with plenty of years ahead of him.
