Celtic told to go and sign 26-year-old Kilmarnock player after yesterday’s defeat
Celtic’s defeat to Kilmarnock yesterday created all sorts of stories, headlines and permutations. But I really wasn’t expecting this one to be honest.
As Brendan Rodgers’ side allowed Rangers to close the gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership, focus went sharply onto the quality of the Celtic squad once more as another poor performance epitomised how the Hoops have been playing over the past few weeks.
With the Celtic manager continually saying he needs to add quality to his squad, journalist Bill Leckie, has said that Rodgers should be looking at Danny Armstrong after the 26-year-old’s impressive display against his side yesterday.
Leckie said [], “How could you watch Danny Armstrong and Matt Kennedy, two proper old-fashioned wingers, and not will them to get some reward for their touch and pace and movement?
“Armstrong in particular is a right good operator. He creates, he scores, he inspires, he even has the bonus talent of being able to throw a ball halfway to Alloway.
“No one’s going to tell me he wouldn’t have brought more to Celtic yesterday than Palma, Oh or Yang.
“No one’s going to tell me he isn’t worth a punt by one of our top two clubs.”
Where to even start with this one but let’s give it a go.
Danny Armstrong is not good enough to play for Celtic
With the greatest of respect to Armstrong, there is a massive difference between being able to turn in one of his performances yesterday for Kilmarnock to doing it every single week for Celtic.
Because that’s what would be expected. Consistency and the ability to turn a game into a win on a weekly basis. That’s the pressure of playing for Celtic. Not doing it once in a while for Kilmarnock.
In 206 career appearances spanning almost ten seasons, Armstrong has scored 39 goals and created 37. To put that into perspective, in two seasons at Celtic, Jota scored 28 and created 26. []

That’s the level of player Celtic need. That’s what Brendan Rodgers should be targeting as he looks for that ‘quality’ that he speaks of nearly week in, week out.
So please, let’s leave talk of signing players who, although very good in the SPFL, are nowhere near the standard that is required to improve Celtic.
