Celtic suffer injury blow, Chris Sutton reacts with ‘nightmare’ 11-word Tweet

Celtic have suffered a big injury blow, after Giorgos Giakoumakis suffered an injury in the warm up – prompting reaction from Chris Sutton.

Giakoumakis, 26, is yet to make his debut for Celtic – but the Greece international was set to feature in the League Cup against Raith last night.

A £2.5million signing from VVV-Venlo, there is plenty of hype surrounding Giakoumakis after scoring 29 goals in 33 games for the Dutch side last term.

Fans were excited to see him on Thursday. But Ange Postecoglou said after the game, he suffered an injury in the warm up before the 3-0 win.

Sutton reacted on Twitter. He labelled the injury to Giakoumakis in the warm-up as a “nightmare”,

Sutton on Giakoumakis: A massive blow for Postecoglou and Celtic

It is not just that Giakoumakis is probably going to be the club’s attacking lynchpin, a good striker. It is the players he comes in to replace.

Odsonne Edouard has left to join Crystal Palace. Losing Edouard is huge, no matter what people say about his form. Albian Ajeti is simply not up to it.

A good striker, but the Swiss star does not suit Postecoglou’s style. The Aussie gaffer wants to work from the front, the first line of defence.

Ajeti does not press well. Edouard did, Kyogo certainly does. But with Edouard gone and Kyogo playing from the left, Giakoumakis is needed.

It really is a “nightmare”. Celtic have two massive games over the next few days, against Dundee United and Bayer Leverkusen.
