Celtic star Ryan Christie posts Instagram message after Scotland win, Andy Robertson replies
Celtic star Ryan Christie uploaded a heartfelt post on social media after Scotland’s historic victory on Thursday night, which promoted a response from international teammate and Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson.
Steve Clarke’s side booked their place in next summer’s European Championships with a penalty shootout win away to Serbia, which means Scotland will be participating in a major tournament for the first time since 1998.
Goalkeeper David Marshall was the hero in the shootout with his save from Aleksandar Mitrovic’s penalty, after the teams were still locked together at 1-1 after extra-time.
Celtic’s attacking midfielder Christie played in a more advanced role against Serbia and he opened the scoring with a brilliant reverse finish early in the second-half.
Luke Jovic’s 90th minute penalty sent the game the distance, but it was a memorable night for Scottish supporters in the end and they will face England, Croatia and Czech Republic in the group stages of the Euros.
Christie posted on his after Scotland’s win and received a response from teammate Robertson, who captained the side during the win against Serbia.
TBR’s View:
Christie, 25, proved his quality on Thursday night with his individual performance and it was his Celtic teammate Callum McGregor who laid on the assist for his goal.
There is a strong core of players running through the group that play in the Scottish top-flight, as well as some super talents that play Premier League football.
26-year-old defender Robertson is the standout figure in the Scotland squad that has won the Premier League and Champions League in the past two years with Liverpool, but his triumph of captaining his country to a major international tournament has to be right up there with some of his biggest achievements.
