Celtic star confirms Ange Postecoglou talks, expects to sign deal in ‘next few days’
that he expects to sign a new Celtic contract in the “next few days”. The forward has come under plenty of criticism recently, mainly in regards to his fitness. But Griffiths says he has spoken to Ange Postecoglou, and a new Celtic deal is imminent.
Griffiths, who turns 31 in August, is about to enter the last 12 months of his current deal at Parkhead. There were doubts about his future even this summer. It comes after just 26 apperarances for Celtic last season, in which the 22-time Scotland international only managed to score seven goals.
But, speaking to BBC Sportsound, Griffiths has stated he spoke to new manager Postecoglou last week to discuss a new deal. The Australian gaffer has arrived in Glasgow on Wednesday. Griffiths has claimed that he expects to sign a new deal in the coming days, despite the critics.
“He phoned me last week and said ‘I am keen to work with you, I know what you can do’. He wants me to get back to the player I once was. We are looking for a deal and hopefully it can be done in the next few days,” Griffiths said, when asked about his future at Parkhead.

Celtic news: Is Postecoglou right to keep Griffiths?
While Griffiths has come in for plenty of criticism, when he is at his best he is still probably Celtic’s second-best striker behind Odsonne Edouard. With the latter leaving, it is crucial then that Celtic keep Griffiths. That becomes even more important given the other options include Albian Ajeti.
Handing him a new deal might just give him the belief and confidence he needs to regain his previous form. A run of games, a bit of belief in his ability and Postecoglou could easily get the best out of Griffiths again. It must be remembered that Griffiths has 123 goals in 261 games for Celtic.
