Ayr United will demand a loan back clause in any transfer for Lawrence Shankland that takes place this month,
Shankland has caught the eye with a whopping 28 goals in all competitions for the Scottish Championship club this month and their manager Ian McCall wants to keep him at the club until the end of the season.
Scottish champions Celtic have been sniffing around the striker as they seek firepower this month in the absence of Leigh Griffiths.
But Brendan Rodgers needs a frontman who can come in and make an impact now; loan deals in make more sense than signing someone for the future and loaning them back out at this stage.

Celtic need players who can come in and make the difference in a title push and on the European stage; players to match the calibre of Steven Davis and Jermain Defoe, who have arrived on the other half of the city.
Of course Brendan Rodgers shouldn’t lose sight of the long-term future, but at this moment in time, any striking recruits should be players who can make an instant impact and keep the title at Parkhead.
McCall’s demand means that Shankland no longer fits that bill and Celtic should look elsewhere for firepower this month.
