Celtic Predicted XI vs Kilmarnock… Brendan Rodgers makes two changes as 31-year-old gets his first start

Brendan Rodgers will make two changes for Celtic in this afternoon’s Scottish Premiership match against Kilmarnock.

The Celtic manager has been pulling no punches this week as he looks to spark his Hoops team into life after a couple of lacklustre performances in the league.

Rodgers has been quick to ring in the changes and made a huge call against Hibs when he started Hyeongyo Oh and dropped Kyogo Furuhashi to the bench.

It’s fair to say that it paid off as the Korean netted a double as Celtic ran out 4-1 victors against the Edinburgh side.

I believe Rodgers is about to make another big call this afternoon as he looks to tighten up the defence and stop leaking silly goals. So here is my Celtic Predicted XI to face Kilmarnock this afternoon.

Joe Hart drops to the bench as Rodgers rings in the Celtic changes

This is the big one. The big call that every Celtic fan has probably been waiting for now for a number of weeks.

Whilst Joe Hart has been an excellent servant for Celtic over the past two seasons, there is no denying that a few high-profile errors have blighted his performances.

Against Motherwell, Hart was found wanting as The Steelmen grabbed a late equaliser costing Celtic two dropped points at home.

And this week against St Johnstone, the 36-year-old must have felt like it was Groundhog Day as he flapped again as the Perth side took a shock lead in a game that Celtic eventually won 3-1.

Rodgers can ill afford to have his ‘keeper throw away needless goals as the fixtures come thick and fast and whilst there is no denying that Hart has also saved Celtic on occasions, he does need a spell out of the firing line and that is why I think Benjamin Siegrist will start for the first time in over a year.

The Swiss ‘keeper has only made two appearances for Celtic since signing in the summer of 2022. And whilst opportunities have been scarce, Rodgers will give him a chance to show what he can do this afternoon in Ayrshire.

Nat Phillips starts for Celtic vs Kilmarnock

The on-loan Liverpool defender has only featured on seven occasions for Celtic under Brendan Rodgers this season.

Whilst he was brought into the club to plug a hole during Celtic’s defensive crisis, the form of Liam Scales has kept him out the side.

Coming on as a second-half substitute on Wednesday night to replace the injured Cameron Carter-Vickers, Phillips is likely to get the nod in Ayrshire today.

With Maik Nawrocki and Gustaf Lagerbielke nowhere near being selected for first-team duties and Carter-Vickers not likely to be risked, now is the perfect opportunity for Phillips to come in and try to make his mark on this Celtic team.
