Celtic player claims club are tracking his international teammate

Celtic defender Emilio Izaguirre has claimed the club have been monitoring his international teammate Alberth Elis, with a view to moving for him this summer.

Elis plays for Houston Dynamo and scored four goals in eight games for the American outfit this season.

For the Honduras national team, he has scored nine times in 36 senior appearances and is seemingly rated by Izaguirre.

The full-back, who is out of contract at the end of the season and could be MLS-bound, said of his fellow countryman : “Celtic have asked me about a few players from Honduras.

“They’ve asked me several times about Elis. Who knows? Maybe one day they will sign players from Honduras like me.

“Honduras has some very good players, but the professional part of things is sometimes missing.

“Here at Celtic, here you have to forget everything else and be a professional for 24/7 and when you play in matches, you give everything.”

TBR’s view

Elis would certainly be a left-field signing for Celtic.

For Houston he has made 76 appearances in total and scored 26 goals. He has also laid on 21 assists, suggesting there is an element of creativity about him.

The 23-year-old could be something of a gamble, but maybe Izaguirre’s word will be heeded by Hoops officials when the transfer window opens.

Cetic could lose loanees Timothy Weah and Oliver Burke, and Vakoun Issouf Bayo has yet to find his feet at Parkhead, so Elis’ name is certainly worth remembering.
