Celtic now want to sign 26-year-old who John Terry said ‘reminds me of myself’

Celtic now want to sign a defender who John Terry once compared to himself as Brendan Rodgers aims to bolster his backline.

Cameron Carter-Vickers and Liam Scales have performed impressively together this season, conceding 23 goals in just 31 games to put the Bhoys top of the Scottish Premiership.

However, Celtic’s depth in the central defence department does not stretch too far beyond the aforementioned duo, so those on the recruitment team at Parkhead are seemingly making plans to bolster that area…

Celtic want to sign Jake Clarke-Salter

Well, Celtic are keen to sign Jake Clarke-Salter this summer.

That is according to .

It is said that Crystal Palace, Burnley and Wolves are also monitoring Clarke-Salter as he delivers a number of impressive performances for QPR this season.

The Sun add that the QPR No.6 has been scouted by Celtic on several occasions so far in the 2023/24 campaign, with Ipswich also keeping tabs.

The 26-year-old has struck up a solid partnership with Steve Cook, which has recently seen QPR lose just two of their last 13 games amid a Championship relegation battle.

Clarke-Salter has made appearances in the Championship, scoring one goal as his efforts look to have helped save QPR from League One.

Bhoys could sign John Terry 2.0

As aforesaid, Clarke-Salter has actually been compared to Terry, by the man himself.

Speaking to the Evening Standard about the Chelsea academy graduate back in April 2016, the five-time Premier League winner : “Jake has a great attitude. I remember watching him a couple of years ago being in control of the game and a really vocal player. He reminds me of myself.”

Praise for a defender does not come much higher than that.

The Sun did not mention any kind of asking price QPR may have for Clarke-Salter, and his contract situation does not open many doors for Celtic either, as he is tied to the Londoners until July 2026.

Therefore, make sure to keep an eye out for further updates.
