Celtic need to consider Euros star who’s perfect for right-back gap, Hoops linked in 2018 – TBR View

New Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou arrives at Parkhead with a big job on his hands, so he’s going to need help in the transfer market to turn things around.

One of the key areas that needs addressing this summer is at right-back.

As it stands, there is a sizeable gap in the options at right-back ahead of next season.

Anthony Ralston is available in the full-back area, but beyond him there aren’t any other senior options.

It feels like the Hoops are still trying to find the long-term successor to Mikael Lustig following his exit in 2019.

If Celtic want to find a perfect right-back to target, they should look at Swansea City ace Connor Roberts.

Roberts looks ideal for Celtic

Roberts, 25, is currently at Euro 2020 starring for Wales.

The Swansea full-back has played every minute of Wales’ three group stage matches, scoring in a victory against Turkey. His country are now preparing to face Denmark in the Round of 16

He’s an all-action full-back that does a bit of everything due to great athleticism.

Roberts scored five goals and made seven assists in 50 Swansea appearances last season. He’s dangerous going forward with pace and operates brilliantly as a wing-back.

The fact Celtic usually dominate the ball so much could make him perfect for them.

Also, his contract at the Liberty Stadium expires next summer, meaning that Swansea will have a decision to make on him at some stage in the near future.

Roberts may feel like a random name out of the hat, but there is some Celtic connection.

The reported back in 2018 that the Scottish giants were scouting Roberts at the time.

It is perhaps time to rekindle that interest this summer.
