Celtic must reignite Japhet Tanganga interest with Spurs open to loan in transfer window

Celtic fans will be hoping that their Champions League exit prompts the club to step up their plans in the transfer market – with the Hoops’ defence a particular concern for Ange Postecoglou.

The Bhoys have Carl Starfelt to soon welcome into the fold. But more work is urgently required.

It does appear that Postecoglou’s men are working on a deal to sign Joe Hart from Spurs. According to Fabrizio Romano, they are in talks over a move for the goalkeeper.

And perhaps he should not be the only Tottenham player Celtic pursue – following reports about a former target this week.

It was claimed in the final hours of the January transfer window that the Hoops wanted Japhet Tanganga on loan.

Tanganga is one of the brightest talents around the Spurs first-team. The 22-year-old can play at right-back or centre-back.

Unfortunately, Celtic missed out on that occasion. But Tanganga could be on the move in the near future.

that Galatasaray have made a bid to take the defender on loan for the season.

Interestingly, the report noted that Spurs would loan Tanganga to a British club for the coming campaign.

And that should tempt Celtic to ask the question.

Postecoglou needs more quality on the right and in the centre of his defence.

And Tanganga showed more than enough late last season to suggest that he could contribute should he stay at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next year.

Obviously, loan deals are not ideal. But Celtic have a lot of work ahead. So getting a Premier League player in without paying a transfer fee could be an incredibly shrewd piece of business.

With Tanganga available, Celtic have to make a move.
