Celtic must ignore free agent Agbonlahor’s blatant come-and-get-me plea

Gabby Agbonlahor is currently without a club and has where he has set his ambitions in terms of finding a new one after his departure from Aston Villa.

The Englishman that only a move to Celtic or Rangers would excite him in terms of a switch north of the border; despite the fact that he has had offers from other Scottish clubs.

After the loss of Moussa Dembele to Lyon at the end of the summer transfer window, the chance to sign a former Premier League striker for free might appeal to Brendan Rodgers. But he should resist any temptation he has to land the hitman.

At various points of Steve Bruce’s reign, Villa were absolutely desperate for firepower. As injuries took hold, they needed a source of goals, but Agbonlahor was still in no fit state to be relied upon.

Agbonlahor wouldn’t get himself fit and firing when the club he has played for his whole career – his local and boyhood club – needed a striker most.

That indicates that he does not have the attitude that Rodgers needs to reinvigorate his attack. It is also tough to ignore his advancing years and poor injury record on top of that.

The Englishman would likely demand huge money as well, just like he was on at Villa. This one should be a no-go.
