Celtic loan for Everton right-back Jonjoe Kenny looking inspired

Celtic seemed to make an extremely smart move in the final hours of the winter window by bringing Jonjoe Kenny in from Everton on loan for the rest of the season.

The Hoops needed to make a signing in that area of the pitch. Jeremie Frimpong left for Bayer Leverkusen earlier in the window.

Kenny had struggled for game-time at Goodison Park. But he previously impressed on loan at Schalke. And his talent was demonstrated by the Toffees reportedly demanding £10 million from any side keen to sign him permanently last month (via .

Kenny has now made three appearances for the Hoops. And the early signs suggest that the loan could prove to be inspired – perhaps for all parties.

His latest appearance came in Wednesday’s 4-0 win over St Mirren. And he played a part in the opening goal with some nice work with Tom Rogic in the corner allowing the Australian to burst into the box and find the back of the net.

, he made two key passes over the course of the evening. Meanwhile, he also made three successful tackles. No Celtic player could match that tally.

He also managed three clearances. Only Kristoffer Ajer managed more during the emphatic win for Neil Lennon’s side.

Celtic have conceded just one goal in the three games Kenny has started. He is not the only player who deserves credit for that run. But his arrival has certainly strengthened their backline.

Of course, a loan move may not be deemed to be ideal for all Bhoys fans. Celtic should have one eye on the long-term situation at Parkhead with their title hopes for this year looking bleak.

But with Kenny seemingly facing an uphill battle trying to force his way into Carlo Ancelotti’s plans on Merseyside, perhaps there may be scope for a further deal in the summer – whether that be another loan or a permanent bid.
