Kris Commons believes Celtic should have done more to keep Dedryck Boytata, claims Joe Ledley previously left in tears
Former Celtic favourite Kris Commons has told the that the club should have perhaps done more to keep Dedryck Boyata.
The uncompromising defender left Celtic Park on a free transfer during the summer, signing for Bundesliga outfit Hertha Berlin.
The Hoops landed Christopher Jullien as a replacement and the jury remains out on him just yet.
Commons believe that one of the reasons that boss Neil Lennon got upset during his first spell at the club was his best players being sold.

He has lifted the lid on his playing days at Celtic Park and also claimed the club should have kept Boyata.
“Wouldn’t it have been better giving Boyata an extra three or four thousand pounds a week?
“When I played, Joe Ledley left Lennoxtown in tears. He didn’t want to go. Gary Hooper was another who would have stayed and wasn’t asking for the work. Georgios Samaras was another.
“That’s what infuriated Neil Lennon in his first spell; the inability to keep hold of his best players.”
TBR Verdict – Commons right to question recruitment at Celtic
Commons played for the Hoops during a desperately successful period for the club; not just domestically, but also in terms of progressing in the Champions League.
He is well within his rights to question the club’s recruitment strategy which does seem somewhat short-sighted.

Celtic needed extra-time to get past Dunfermline in the League Cup on Sunday and after last week’s Champions League exit, all doesn’t seem well at the football club.
Boyata was a rock of a defender as far as Scottish football is concerned and keeping him would have been massive. Of course, Celtic might have been powerless but a new contract could have at least been offered.
With fierce rivals Rangers having signed several quality players and flying out of the blocks this season, the Hoops are in real danger of letting their stranglehold on the Scottish game slip this season.
