The Dutch giants have toppled Real Madrid and Juventus in this season’s Champions League and now have Tottenham in their sights this evening.
Celtic have disappointed in Europe during recent campaigns and Forrest believes that Ajax’s superb run to the last four, offers hope for all.
“A lot of people have talked about Ajax putting out teams like Real Madrid and Juventus. I think a lot of teams will take a lot of confidence from that because they have shown what can be done.
“Celtic have been successful in Europe before so it would be great to get back that and Ajax have proved what it possible.”
Forrest has been in sensational form for Celtic this season. The 27-year-old has scored 17 goals and contributed 20 assists.
TBR Verdict
It is perhaps interesting that Forrest believes Celtic can draw inspiration from Ajax’s 2018/19 achievements.
The Hoops have had memorable European nights in the past but certainly, in the last three or four seasons they have been few and far between.
Whoever is in charge at Parkhead next season will know he has a remit to improve the club’s fortunes in Europe.
Ajax play in a league which is more competitive than the Scottish Premiership. For Celtic to replicate what they have achieved would be an extremely difficult task, to say the least.
The Hoops don’t lack heart though and if this current crop of young talent can stay together at Celtic Park then maybe they can have their own Ajax moment in years to come.
