Celtic fringe man Emilio Izaguirre could get some minutes on international duty

Celtic defender Emilio Izaguirre has not enjoyed the best return to Parkhead since he re-signed for the club in the summer, but could get some valuable minutes away on internatonal duty over the next two weeks.

The 32-year-old returned to the Scottish champions for a second stint in the summer, with seven years already under the belt with them from his first spell.

He has been signed to provide back-up for Kieran Tierney at left-back and that has seen him make just three appearances across all competitions so far this campaign.

But the full-back has linked up with his nation Honduras during the international break for fixtures against United Arab Emirates and Chile.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers may get the opportunity to see his player in full competitive action and will be intrigued to see how he performs.

Izaguirre is somewhat of a forgotten man at the club right now, but it could only take one injury to ever-present Tierney to see him thrown straight into the starting XI.

The Honduras international does have a wealth of experience under his belt and should provide suitable cover at Celtic if required.

But he’s begun to lose that yard of pace and the left-back would benefit massively from some action for his nation during the next fortnight.
