Celtic fans react to official club post about Charlie Mulgrew

Celtic’s official Twitter account have wished former player and Blackburn Rovers captain Charlie Mulgrew a happy birthday – and Hoops fans have reacted to the post by urging their club to bring him back to Paradise.

The versatile Blackburn man turned 33 on Wednesday, as he continues to shine with the Championship side. He has scored 10 goals for Rovers this season, despite predominantly playing as a centre-back.

Mulgrew moved to Blackburn from Celtic in the summer of 2016 in the summer Brendan Rodgers joined the Hoops. He played 208 times for the Hoops, scoring 29 goals and creating 34 more.

Since then, he has amassed a goal in less than four games for Blackburn, with 27 in 104 games. Celtic wished the left-footed star a happy birthday on Twitter.

The 39-time Scotland international played for Celtic across two spells. Coming through the academy, he joined Wolves in the summer of 2006 – before rejoining the Hoops in 2010 from Aberdeen.

Celtic fans reacted to their club’s official post, with the majority earning their club to re-sign the versatile defender. The Hoops are somewhat thin on the ground at centre-back.

Dedryck Boyata looks set to leave the club, as he remains in the final months of his contract. Jack Hendry and Marvin Compper are struggling, while Filip Benkovic is only on loan from Leicester City.

The majority of Celtic fans want Mulgrew back, to offer cover at centre-back. He has a contract at Ewood Park until the summer of 2021.
