Celtic fans react as Scott Sinclair left out of squad against AIK on Thursday evening

Celtic picked up a comfortable 2-0 win over AIK in the last qualifying round before the Europa League group stages as Neil Lennon looks to get back on track – but Celtic fans cannot understand the absence of one player.

Following the loss to CFR Cluj in Champions League qualifying earlier this month, Celtic were demoted to Europa League qualifying. It sees The Hoops take on Swedish side AIK for a place in the group stages.

James Forrest scored in his fifth consecutive outing, lashing a right-footed effort past the goalkeeper despite stopper Oscar Linner getting a big hand to the shot. Odsonne Edouard showed his class with a superb 25-yard free-kick.

The Hoops started with Mikey Johnston and Forrest out wide, and brought on Lewis Morgan in the second half. Jonny Hayes was also on the bench, while Maryan Shved continues to be nowhere to be seen.

But the confusion surrounds the situation involving Scott Sinclair, and whether he is being forced out of Celtic or that he is imply not being picked due to quality – the latter of which seems unlikely, when looking at his stats north of the border.

Sinclair has not been a part of Celtic’s last three European squads as well as the narrow, extra-time win over Dunfermline. It is somewhat bewidlering, given Sinclair has netted 61 goals in 164 games – and laid on 34 assists, since he joined under Brendan Rodgers

He has 12 months left on his contract at Parkhead, and has been linked with English clubs in both the Championship and the Premier League. Celtic fans are dumbfounded that Sinclair was left out of the 18-man side again.
