Celtic fans react as Kouassi Eboue leaves club to join KRC Genk on loan

Celtic have confirmed that midfielder Kouassi Eboue has left the club on Thursday to join Belgian side KRC Genk on loan until the end of the 2019-20 campaign – and Hoops fans have reacted to the news on Twitter.

Eboue joined Celtic in January 2017 from Russian side Krasnodar for a fee believed to be in the region of £2.8million (). Since that move, though, Eboue has managed just 22 appearances for Celtic – failing to make even one appearance this term.

A cenral midfielder, the 22-year-old was brought to Glasgow by Brendan Rodgers with a view to making the Ivorian Scott Brown’s long-term replacement. However, Brown remains crucial to Celtic – while Eboue is way down the pecking order.

Eboue last played for Celtic on October 28 2018 in a Betfred Cup win over Hearts, managing just five appearances throughout 2018-19. He joined a side that currently sit in sixth position in the Belgian league, four points behind fifth place.

Celtic have not signed any central midfielders this month but they have been linked with Motherwell manager Liam Donnelly. The Hoops do boast Brown, Callum McGregor, Olivier Ntcham, Ryan Christie and plenty more options in the middle.

Upon hearing the news, Celtic fans have reacted on Twitter to the news that Eboue has left on a temporary basis until the end of the season – his first loan spell away since joining Celtic – and many are hoping he returns a better player.

Some, though, think he should have gone permanently.
