Celtic fans react as David Turnbull returns to Motherwell side in Scottish Premiership loss

David Turnbull was handed his first appearance of the season for Motherwell on Tuesday night, eight months on from his failed move to Celtic – and Hoops fans have responded to the news that he is back in action.

Last summer, Turnbull was reportedly on the verge of a move to Celtic for a fee of £3.25million (). It came after a stunning 2018-19 campaign under Stephen Robinson, in which Turnbull scored 15 goals in 34 games from midfield.

However, the report claims a Celtic medical flagged up the need for Turnbull to undergo knee surgery – which has kept him sidelined until now. Despite having pictures taken alongside Neil Lennon, his Celtic move fell through.

Now, Turnbull has finally returned to action and played the last 20 minutes of Motherwell’s surprise home defeat to St. Mirren – failing to help his boyhood club overcome the Saints. He posted on Twitter after the match.

Celtic boast plenty of options in the middle of the park, with Callum McGregor, Olivier Ntcham and Ryan Christie all likely to rival Turnbull if the Scotland Under-21 international made his way to Celtic Park in the summer.

However, it remains to be seen if Celtic are still interested in signing Turnbull. Many Hoops fans, though, made their feelings clear on Twitter after he returned to action, urging their club and the player to get a deal done.
