Celtic fans react as David Turnbull impresses during cameo role against St. Johnstone
It was another frustrating result for Celtic on Sunday afternoon as the Hoops failed to beat St. Johnstone at Parkhead as Neil Lennon’s future continues to remain in enormous doubt – but some Celtic fans were impressed with David Turnbull’s display.
Turnbull, 21, eventually joined Celtic in the summer for a fee of £3million () after a move failed to go through the summer beforehand. The Hoops have decided to nab the midfield after he had a hand in 23 goals during 41 Motherwell outings.
But since moving to Celtic, Turnbull has been afforded just one Celtic start – making six substitute appearances. On Sunday, he came on in the 68th minute but failed to help Celtic nab three points against Callum Davidson’s Saints.
The pressure continues to ramp up on Lennon. Celtic are now 13 points behind Rangers – though the Hoops do have two games in hand. Europa League and Betfred Cup exits have seen fans protest – while Chris Sutton continues to question his future.
Chris Kane’s goal was cancelled out by Mo Elyounoussi but Celtic continued to struggle. But Turnbull did well when he stepped onto the pitch – and many have urged Lennon, or whoever is in charge, to give Turnbull more of a chance going forward.
David turnbull got to be starting every week for Celtic. Always passes foward, good range of passing and always available for the ball. Great player 👍🏻

David turnbull is a player. Give him games, I’ve seen it in the few minutes he’s had so far.

Don't know how David Turnbull hasn't played more for Celtic since he signed. Real driving force when he came on, made a huge difference. St Johnstone looked like a team on a long unbeaten run, happy to go toe to toe with their hosts.

He’s a ready made replacement for Brown stepping into the midfield. We chased him for 2 seasons and leaving him on the bench is criminal brings plenty energy to the team he needs his chance

Get David Turnbull in from the start btw
With such a poor result I’ve glossed over it a bit. Thought he actually looked positive. Got to give the boy some minutes to show more of what he can do
